Great demo and tutorial on how to add some nice effects for those overlays and/or off-canvas implementations. A couple of the examples utilize SVG and JavaScript to get them working.

We’ve all been asynchronously loading JavaScript for many years, but it hadn’t even occurred to me to asynchronously load CSS to speed up (and give even more perceptively speed) for that initial load and render. The latest Safari Tech preview adds the ability to have MP4s in img tags. If this catches, on it means we can keep animations on the web, but lose all the downsides of animated GIFs.
